Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
